A report of an ammonia leak on a commercial vessel in Ballard prompted a hazardous materials response from the Seattle Fire Department on Friday morning. The vessel is docked at the Foss Seattle Shipyard along the Lake Washington Ship Canal, in the 600 block of West Ewing Street. At about 8and44 a.m., Seattle Fire officials said the vessel had been evacuated as a safety precaution, while hazmat crews boarded the ship to investigate the source of the leak. Firefighters were photographed at the scene and a Seattle Fire Department engine was on site during the operation. No injuries have been reported, and there was no immediate information on what caused the leak or the vessel’s status as investigators continued their assessment. Authorities did not release further details about potential environmental impacts or a timetable for containment or return to normal operations. Further updates were pending. Responders continued to monitor the scene.
