A dangerous encounter in North Seattle last week escalated after police confirmed the suspect is a confirmed and registered s*x off*nder.

On October 23, just after 4:10 p.m., officers with the Seattle Police Department responded to reports of a man threatening employees inside an auto repair shop in the 10500 block of Aurora Avenue North. According to police, the suspect attempted to enter a restricted area of the business before pulling out a bl*ded we*pon and raising it toward a 59-year-old man inside the shop.

The victim backed away and fell to the ground while trying to retreat. He was not physically injured.

By the time officers arrived, the suspect had already left the area and was seen walking away nearby. When officers attempted to stop him, he ignored lawful commands and ran, triggering an extended foot pursuit through heavy rush-hour traffic.

Officers eventually caught up with the suspect, but the situation remained dangerous. Police say the man re-armed himself with a bl*ded we*pon while standing close to officers. To safely take him into custody, officers deployed a t*ser and arrested him. Multiple bl*ded items were later recovered as evidence.

During the chase, one officer suffered a serious leg injury. He was treated at the scene by the Seattle Fire Department and transported to a hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect, a 28-year-old confirmed and registered s*x off*nder, was booked into King County Jail on felony harassment and burglary charges, with bail set at $75,000. Police say an additional charge of obstructing a public officer may also be requested.

Investigators also revealed the suspect had been arrested just days earlier, on October 20, for harassing three teenage girls while armed with a large bl*ded we*pon. He was released from jail the following day.

Detectives with the General Investigations Unit are continuing to investigate the case.
