After a nearly five-hour standoff, Seattle police arrested a 51-year-old man who allegedly killed an elderly man in Seattle’s Green Lake neighborhood Saturday.

At around 11:45 a.m., police responded to the area after getting reports that a man was making threats with a knife in the 1100 block of North 84th Street, according to officers.

Police arrived and found a man in his 70s suffering from life-threatening injuries inside a house.

“When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from life-threatening injuries; they pulled that man to safety, and they provided emergency medical aid,” explained Eric Muñoz, a spokesperson for the Seattle Police Department.

Despite all life-saving efforts, Seattle Fire Department crews pronounced the man deceased at the scene.

“We saw the paramedic giving, trying to give somebody CPR, for about 4 or 5 minutes, and then they kind of gave up,” one witness described, while working across Aurora Avenue from the scene.

The 51-year-old suspect then went inside what SPD called a group home, where the two men were believed to have lived, and presumably knew one another.
