Dozens of people are moving into temporary housing after a devastating fire at a tiny home village in Seattle.

Officials reported late Thursday that the fire started by accident and was likely caused by improperly discarded smoking materials. It happened along the 500 block of Elliott Avenue West before 2:45 a.m. near the Seattle Waterfront.

Resident Shantell Welker lived at this tiny home village in Interbay for about six months until the fire ripped through the complex.

She said she escaped her tiny home as the structure was burning.

6:43 The Tacoma Police Department’s Arson Unit is asking for the public’s help in finding whoever is responsible for a string of fires across Pierce County earlier this week.

On July 14 at around 1:30 a.m., Tacoma’s police and fire department responded to a structure fire in the 1100 block of Dock St. Officials said the fire resulted in a total loss to the structure.

Hours later, police said three more fires were set along Puyallup Ave., followed by two more fires in Fife. Tacoma police said they believe all the incidents are connected, with no reported loss of life.
