INCIDENT DESCRIPTION
At 11:38 am on July 15, 2024, the Seattle Fire Department’s Hazmat team responded to the King County Courthouse for a report of a suspicious white powder found in an envelope that was opened by someone in the building. In November 2023, at least four Seattle synagogues received suspicious white powdery or crystal-like substances in envelopes, and during elections, as did election offices in five counties in Washington. In the election offices cases, a strange letter was also received. Though this instance seems similar, there’s been no word on if this is connected to last year’s incidents. The Seattle Fire Department’s Hazmat team, located only a few blocks away, arrived on scene and investigated the substance in hazmat gear. It was deemed to not be hazardous. The substance was packaged and turned over to law enforcement. The incident lasted one hour and 36 minutes.
