The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) is evacuating a building on 1st Avenue North Wednesday morning after getting reports of an explosion.

The SFD tweeted around 9:30 a.m. that firefighters responded to an apartment building in the 100 block of 1st Avenue North and found a person with serious injuries.

911 callers within the building told dispatchers they heard an explosion within a basement unit, the SFD said.

Firefighters are evacuating the building as a safety precaution and HazMat crews are also responding.
