It’s been decades since two young aviators vanished after takeoff from the old Sand Point Naval Air Station. Once in the air, Ensign Gaston Mayes and Lieutenant, junior grade, Benjamin Vreeland made one last radio call and that was the last anyone heard from them. But two aviation buffs have refused to let the flyers be forgotten. They resumed the search and may have solved a mystery more than 70 years old.
