The Seattle Fire Department traces back to 1889, born out of the Great Seattle Fire that same year, and became a paid department on October 17, 1889. It has been growing and evolving ever since.

Seattle Fire Department’s Mobile Integrated Health program has grown from one case manager to nearly 60 firefighters in ten years, built to identify high utilizers of emergency services and connect them to a better path than the emergency room.

The program now includes 11 case managers, a nurse practitioner, seven-day-a-week coverage, and a dedicated overdose response team for on-scene opiate overdose intervention.

Seattle Fire Department covers 33 fire stations across the city on an all-risks, all-hazards model.
