Today at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), the Port of Seattle conducted its FAA-required Triennial Exercise, a full-scale emergency response drill designed to test the airport’s readiness for a major incident.
In this year’s scenario, firefighters and emergency responders simulated an explosion aboard a taxiing aircraft, with more than 100 mock patients requiring immediate medical attention. Fire Chief Randy Krause explains how first responders rapidly triage patients using color-coded systems to identify injury severity, coordinate treatment areas, and prioritize transportation to hospitals.
The exercise brought together firefighters, medics, and regional emergency partners to practice communication, coordination, and lifesaving response procedures in a high-pressure environment. These large-scale drills ensure SEA Airport and its partner agencies remain prepared to respond quickly and effectively during a real-world emergency.
