More than 85 firefighters battled flames from a vacant building for hours Monday morning.
The fire began just after midnight along South 10th Avenue South and South Jackson Street in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District. The Seattle Fire Department categorized the burn as a “two-alarm fire,” and dozens of firefighters were still on the scene more than nine hours later.
A spokesperson from the SFD said crews couldn’t go inside given how dangerous the scene was as the two-story building. Firefighters took a defensive approach by pouring water onto the vacant building from the outside. They plan on bringing in heavy equipment to gain access to the building, the SFD said.
