INCIDENT DESCRIPTION
At 12:53 AM on July 5, 2024, Independence Day fireworks were winding down when the Seattle Fire Department was dispatched to a fire-in-building at 2947 Eastlake Avenue E. The building, built in 1972, was home to the popular Eastlake Bar & Grill from 2004 to 2022. The building had been bought in 2020 and was planned to eventually be demolished. In the mean time, it sat vacant and deteriorating. A familiar Seattle scene emerged when the vacant building caught fire in the early morning after July 4th. Just as an SDOT operator rotated the University Bridge camera southwest, Engine 22, stationed just half a mile away, arrived first on scene and quickly upgraded the fire to a second alarm. The SDOT camera caught very intense pre-arrival footage of flames visible through trees and embers flying. Despite the large fire, firefighters kept the fire from encroaching down the hill to a business and homes adjacent. Just as the fire was coming under control, another structure fire was reported fifteen minutes west. Several units (such as Ladder 8 and Battalion 4) cleared the Eastlake fire and responded to the second fire, in the Queen Anne neighborhood (reported as Magnolia by dispatch). The Queen Anne fire was much smaller and quickly reduced, but just as that was happening, a third structure fire was reported in a University of Washington fraternity home. Fortunately, that fire was also minor and quickly reduced. The Seattle Fire Department stayed on scene of the Eastlake fire for at least seven hours. The cause of the fire hasn’t been reported and no injuries were reported.
