A Seattle police officer bravely risked his life to rescue a 57-year-old man experiencing a mental health crisis, seconds before an oncoming train rushed by. In a video released Wednesday, the dramatic incident unfolded on Oct. 7 when police responded to a call at 9:16 p.m. about a man standing on a ledge above the train tracks near Second Avenue East and East Jackson Street. As officers tried to persuade him to climb to safety, the man slipped and fell 25 feet onto the tracks, sustaining severe injuries. Although police had requested that trains be stopped, one was already approaching King Street Station. As the train sounded its horn, two officers heroically pulled the injured man to safety just as the train passed. He was treated at the scene by the Seattle Fire Department and later transported to Harborview Medical Center, where he was in critical condition with multiple fractures.
