The Washington State Patrol provided an update Tuesday afternoon after six people were injured in seven separate shootings along Interstate 5 in King and Pierce counties within 3 hours.
The WSP said a suspect was arrested in Pierce County and booked into the King County jail for first-degree assault.
WSP Communications Director Chris Loftis said the shooting spree met the definition of an “active shooter” and is treating it as a “mass shooting event.”
The shooting spree left three people hospitalized, including a woman who was critically injured. Two of the six injured people were in the same vehicle, officials said. Witnesses at four different scenes described the same suspect vehicle: a white Volvo with California plates.
A victim from a seventh shooting came forward Tuesday after hearing about the incidents on the news, WSP said.
