A large, 2-alarm fire in Seattle’s Columbia City neighborhood left people rattled after nearby cars and even a home were damaged.
Crews with the Seattle Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at a building under construction near the 3300 block of Claremont Ave S and Rainier Ave S just before 2:40 a.m. Saturday. The property being built was deemed a total loss and officials said the fire was intentionally set.
The property owner told KOMO News the goal was to sell the units and donate the money to a non-profit called the “Rave Foundation,” which is run by the Seattle Sounders to help underprivileged kids. That money was going to help build 26 soccer fields around the city.
“The goal was to raise $1 million to donate to them and this was one of the big donation money that was going to come out of here to go to this so we can have 26 soccer fields built by 2026,” property owner Thach Nguyen told KOMO News.
