A former Bothell City Council member was arrested Tuesday afternoon after a 20-year-old woman was found dead inside a south Seattle home.

According to the Seattle Police Department (SPD), officers responded to a report of a “possible homicide” just before 4 p.m. at a home on the 4600 block of South Orchard Street in the city’s Brighton neighborhood.

A 58-year-old man, who was treated for injuries by the Seattle Fire Department and taken to Harborview Medical Center, was arrested for investigation of murder, according to the SPD. He was booked into King County jail.

In a statement, the city of Bothell identified the man who was arrested Tuesday as former Bothell City Councilmember James McNeal.

The Tacoma Police Department said officers were dispatched regarding an “unresponsive female found lying on the ground.” Tacoma Fire Department personnel pronounced the woman dead at the scene, police said.

The TPD said its detectives and crime scene personnel are investigating the incident as a homicide. At the crime scene on Wednesday, KOMO saw flowers that had been left behind by those who knew the victim.

Officers arrested a man in connection to the murder, police said. He was booked into Pierce County jail on a second-degree murder charge, the TPD said.
