Mayor Bruce Harrell joined Seattle Fire Department (SFD) Chief Harold Scoggins, SFD Medical Director Dr. Michael Sayre, and other leaders to announce the launch of a pilot program in Seattle that allows SFD’s paramedics to give medicine to treat acute opioid withdrawal. The medication, with a generic name of buprenorphine, is given to patients who were treated for an overdose with naloxone and then experience painful opioid withdrawal symptoms.
