INCIDENT DESCRIPTION
At 1:45 pm on December 1, 2023, the Seattle Fire Department responded to a hazardous materials leak at the Olympic Athletic Club. According to a fellow scanner monitor (unconfirmed information but reputable), five people were exposed to an unknown substance in the pool area, and at least two of them were having trouble breathing. The building was evacuated. The Seattle Fire Department’s HazMat team responded from Station 10 near downtown, approximately twenty-five minutes away. The team arrived at around 2:05 pm. The fire department found a hydrochloric acid leak from pool cleaning chemicals, which cleared by SFD. Two patients were treated and one was transported in good condition (green on green-yellow-red triage). The incident lasted one hour and forty-two minutes.
