On February 10th, 2021, I filmed Seattle Fire crews arriving for a vehicle in the water at the Golden Gardens boat launch.

Engines 17 and 18 put rescue swimmers in the water, and located one victim in the vehicle. He was brought to shore and declared deceased. Rescue 1 divers confirmed that there were no additional victims in the vehicle, and the scene was turned over to the Seattle Police for investigation.

I apologize for the shakiness – it was about 35 F (1.6 C) and I couldn’t find my gloves.

This is the first scene I’ve been to with a visible body – he was mostly covered by a sheet, but it was still jarring to see on a sunny morning. Shoutout to the SFD crews for going in the water and trying to save him.

No word on how the vehicle ended up in the water, or how long it was there.
